Re: Replacing TTC Collectors with machines not as simple as it sounds

(Replying to Peter Kuitenbrouwer’s article on the National Post:http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/02/28/peter-kuitenbrouwer-replacing-ttc-collectors-with-machines-not-as-simple-as-it-sounds/#more-145393, and Councillor Ford’s suggestion, after the horrible shooting of a TTC booth collector at Dupont Station.)

While it might not be easy to replace booth collectors with automated payment machines, in the sense that a lot of people would be left out of work, why doesn’t the TTC change their job duties to customer service representatives, similar to New York City, instead? That change will not only make their job easier and friendlier, since they will be able to better assist customers, but it will also keep those employees away from the perils of having to deal with large amounts of cash.
This would be another step forward in order to make our Toronto transit system more efficient and friendlier.
